Ipswich Puff Back
When a furnace malfunctions, it can produce what's called a "puff back." This occurs when soot is pushed back through the system and "puffs" into your home through the heating system.
Deceptively Pervasive
Like any fine dust (drywall dust, pollen, etc.), it finds it's way into every nook and cranny imaginable. However, due to it's texture and it's tendencies to fall evenly, you sometimes can't tell your property has been damaged until you begin clean up.
As these photos demonstrate, the saturation to fabric is significant. The photo on the left shows the soot removed from the top level of the fabric using our proprietary cleaning agents and sponges. The photo on the right shows a definite demarcation line down the middle from before and after we began cleaning.
If you suffer a puff back, call a professional. Attempting to clean it yourself can embed the soot into the fabric and lead to permanent damage.
